Red Eye Relay

  • Jul 20

    Starts: July 20, 2013 @ 2:30 pm

    Ends: July 21, 2013 @ 10:00 am

    Place: 350 W. 11th St., Bloomington, IN

100 Miles, 21 Legs

The Red Eye Relay is an all-nighter. It’s a ridiculous challenge that brings teams of runners a step away from the average run, a race that adds sleep deprivation to the already difficult task of running multiple races in one night. What goes together better than running yourself silly and staying up all night? Well, maybe peanut butter and jelly, but what the heck? The fun starts on a Saturday evening at the Upland Brewing Co. Bloomington Brew Pub (350 W. 11th St., Bloomington, IN). From there, goofballs get giddier as the course winds through some of the hilliest terrain that the midwest has to offer before a grand finale finish on Sunday morning back at the brewery.

Have a look at the route!

2012 was Upland Brewing Co.’s first year to put on the Red Eye Relay. We had  great time and learned a lot. Improvements you can expect in 2013 are RER tech shirts with your registration, an included beer at the finish line, better road markings, and an amp’d up breakfast spread.

A portion of proceeds from the race will benefit a great local cause, the Enis Furley Foundation.

The theme for 2013 is RAD RED!

    Hello!
I have a potential team I would like to register, 3 of us are definites. We are really excited to run this race but feel like we need a team of 7 in all reality to be able to complete all 100 miles. Should we
try to join up with a group who needs people or if we create our own team, how likely are we to fill the other 4 spots?
If we do register, do we pay the full amount now for a team of 5-7? Thanks for your help!

      Hi Leanna,
If you want to go ahead and register a team of 3, you can go ahead and do that, then change your registration to a larger team later if you get more members. As for how likely you are to recruit additional runners if you go ahead and register a team of 7, that I couldn’t tell you. A few people have posted to our Facebook page looking for teammates (http://www.facebook.com/redeyerelay?ref=ts). You might get in touch with them. We hope to see you at the relay!

Besides starting it at the brewery change the course used the last few years that started at the IU outdoor track, what other changes are there?

  3. Gavin says:

I registered a couple months ago, and now when I look at the registration page it has changed. I can not confirm my registration. Are the old registrations still valid?

Blessings to all the participants for giving of their time and ability as well as $$$ to this very deserving little girl’s family. Thank you!

Hi everyone. I’m writing on behalf of Upland and the race organizers. Thank you all for your comments, particularly those phrased in constructive ways.

I don’t want to make excuses for things that you found disappointing, but I hope you understand that this was an entirely new team operating the event. Doing an event of this scale for the first time is difficult under any circumstances. Catching up with how well Team Brilliant operated the event after multiple years of experience was an additional challenge.
Based on your comments, it’s evident we fell short in several areas, and we apologize for that. But please know that many people worked very hard to get you on the course. Breakfast and race shirts are just the tip of the iceberg; there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to make an event like this happen. Based on your feedback, we’ll be offering tech shirts, a better breakfast spread, awards for finishers, and better course markings next year. Most of you have expressed that you are going to run in the event again next year, and we’re glad to hear that you enjoy the core concept of the event enough to give it another try. Thanks for bearing with us as we dial in the details.

      Thank you!

I’m super glad to know that you are tuning in and paying attention to this feedback! The race really does have the potential to be great and I can only imagine how challenging it was to take over. Keep us posted in the future regarding improvements made.

My team of 5 had a great time and we are talking of our return trip in 2013. I think Tech shirts would be a great improvement. Also, Since a brewery is a sponsor it would be great to have at least 1 free beer at the end. all in all I think you guys did an awesome job for a first year race.

We’re working on the details of the Red Eye Relay and will keep you posted. Thank you for the recommendations.

    • admin says:

Thanks for your input Mike. A tech shirt upgrade is in the works and a free beer at the finish is a great idea! We’ll be getting the registration up in the next couple days

  8. Teri says:

When will 2013 registration open? Thanks!

  9. Teri says:

I’ve just registered for the relay. I filled out my team’s info to the best of my knowledge, but if I need to update DOB or want to add a 7th runner, where do I need to go to update that information?
